Anime[]
Mesozoic Meltdown[]
Afrovenator was first summoned by Gabbro in Ancient Persia during The 39 Thieves to try and open the titular thieves' treasure cave when he was looking for the Red Cosmos Stone; however, the stone door was too heavy to get open, so he recalled it.
Later while in the cave, Gabbro summoned Afrovenator again to attack the Alpha Gang, but Ursula summoned Spiny, who knocked it into a wall; it was then given its Spectral Armor form to battle against Spiny's DinoTector form. The two seemed equally strong, but Afrovenator used Tornado Toss to defeat Spiny. It knocked the Alpha Gang away and swatted the gold piles around to discover the Cosmos Stone wasn't in that room. It moved to the one where the D-Team was, where it fought against Ace, who used his DinoTector form to get an edge, but the ceiling had begun caving in after Genie knocked Gabbro into a wall, so Ace used Hurricane Beat to defeat Afrovenator, destroying its Spectral Armor. Its card was reclaimed by Rex while escaping the collapsing cave.
Manga[]
An Afrovenator apparead in the Ancient Egypt chapter from the Dinosaur King Pterosaur Legends manga, but unlike the anime, he is used by Shear.
Character Design[]
Personality[]
Not much is known about Afrovenator's personality, as it was under Gabbro's control when it fought the Alpha Gang and D-Team. Before using Tornado Toss, it seemed to be equally as strong as the oversized Spiny (who is weak for his size), but it defeated him in spite of his DinoTector Armor, being the first to do so. This was probably mainly because Spiny was slammed into the ceiling of the cave by the attack, an attack that would probably also have easily defeated a stronger dinosaur. Comparing this to being defeated easily by Ace, Afrovenator clearly has poor defensive stamina.
Trivia[]
- Dr. Taylor's arcade comments:
- Original: アフリカのサハラさばくで発見された肉食恐竜だ。走るのはあまり早くなかったようだ。
- Translation: A carnivore found in the Sahara Desert.
- It is the third Bronze rarity Wind Dinosaur card in the arcade.
- Along with Tyrannosaurus, Majungasaurus, Prosaurolophus, Tuojiangosaurus, Diceratops, Albertosaurus, Achelousaurus, Muttaburrasaurus, and Opisthocoelicaudia, it is one of the available dinosaurs in the Japanese Red Dinosaurs Egg card.
- Afrovenator was the first dinosaur in Mesozoic Meltdown to beat a dinosaur wearing DinoTector Armor (Spiny). Main dinosaurs had been defeated several times before, but never while wearing armor.
- Afrovenator shares its anime dub roar with several other theropods: Saurophaganax's later episodes, Torvosaurus, one of the second Mapusaurus's several roars, Rajasaurus, and Gigas's later episodes.
- Although playable in the Japanese-only versions of the arcade game, there is an unused model of Afrovenator in the programming of the later English version of the arcade game though is unplayable by not being attached to an ID, likely meaning it wouldn't respond to a Japanese card's barcode.
